Thargomindah – Bourke
It was fine this morning but water lying everywhere. I saw a Kingfisher and went for the camera but by the time I got back it was gone!! Headed back to Cunnamulla and then on to Bourke. We arrived here about 3 PM. There is a strong westerly wind blowing and it is quite cold. Lots of road kill again but more emus than kangaroos.
There is a bower bird nesting just outside the fence of the caravan park. Will try to photograph it in the morning if the weather is better. On the drive down today we saw a number of kites including two Letter-wing Kites. (Knew what it was, thanks to Chris S). Also saw my first Wedge-tailed Eagle.

Day 2
Thursday 8th September 2011
St George – Thargomindah
The drive was great as spring has the wattles blooming as well as some of the eucalyptus species – which were adorned with a creamy yellow blossom. Emus and kangaroos were again plentiful. Road kill was everywhere. We stopped in Bollon for a cuppa and several emus just walked down the main street. We were talking to an old chap who warned us that the rain was coming in.
At Cunnamulla, we drove out to the weir to see if the birds were still there and to have lunch, then we headed west. At Eulo, the old store had been burnt down and the Date Winery was closed. The further west we went, the darker the sky became. By the time we arrived at Lake Bindagolly after avoiding lots of ‘roos and emus, rain started. It was pouring by the time we arrived in Thargomindah and continued through the night. We made the decision to return to Cunnamulla and then had south to Bourke, Broken Hill and across to Port Augusta. We will come home via Innaminka as long as the track is open then.

Trip to WA 2011
Wednesday 7 September 2011
After much preparation including the following:
• Doing a four wheel drive course up and down 40 degree gradients
• Learning to change a tyre on the Land Cruiser . We actually took the wheel off and put it back on.
• Learning to put up the Batwing on the Landcruiser and also put up the tent
• Pack the roof rack – being short does not help!!!
We left on our trip to Western Australia. We drove to Dalby then down the Moonie Highway to St George where we stayed overnight. The kangaroos were very active from about 4PM on. Hardly saw a ‘roo when Marg G and I went west at Easter but they were prolific here.
