Port Lincoln -Whyalla – Port Augusta 3 November

Today we only had a relatively short drive but we did not arrive in Port Augusta until 3.30 PM. Had a phone call from Barb & Terry (My friend Vera’s sister and brother-in-law) yesterday saying that they were in Port Augusta so we met up with them at the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden for coffee and we are going out for dinner tonight. Small world!!!
On our way north, we called in to Trumby Bay and then Port Neill. There is a business in Port Neill where they take an item from nature ie. Eucalyptus leaf and they then dip it in copper oxide, then electro-nickel plate them. Come up with some amazing colours.
At Cowell, we called into a farm to se Quandong trees as we were not sure that we know what the tree looked like. Mrs Schultz, the owner told us that it is really a parasitic tree and will take over and kill the trees around it. Surprised us to find that Cowell’s nephrite jade is recognized as the oldest and one of the largest deposits in the world.
Then on to Whyalla. We were quite surprised with Whyalla. It seems to be a developing town and was very tidy.
While we were sitting in the coffee shop, a Sacred Kingfisher landed on the tree near the water. Could not believe it as I had missed one earlier in the day. There were huge numbers of Honey-eaters coming in for a drink as well.
