October 4 Durango
Drove from the Mesa Verde into Durango and found accommodation at
the Econolodge. We then went to the Train Station to book for the Durango to
Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Trip. We were only able to travel in the
open-air gondola as all the other classes were sold out. Durango has been named
as one of the top 10 Western communities
in the United States in 2011.It has an old-West-styled main street with
saloons, and we even went for a ride in a horse drawn carriage.
Went to Carvers Brewery for lunch then walked the historic street.
The highlight of the visit was that I managed to contact Maggie
Bowes, who was on exchange to Musgrave Hill while I was there. Maggie came to
dinner with us and we had a really lovely night catching up on all the news
after so many years.
