Kunnanurra - Daly river Barra Resort

Monday 9th July Kununurra – Victoria River
Left early as we had to lose 11/2 hours as we entered the Northern Territory. An uneventful day as we were on the Great Northern Highway – bitumen!!!! No bone shaking corrugations!
Stopped at the Victoria River Roadhouse caravan park for the night. Stopped early and have had a relaxing time with nibbles and drinks.
Tuesday 10th July Victoria River to Katherine to Pussy Cat Flats
Drove into Katherine to re-stock the larder. When we pulled up at the Tourist Centre, Allan had oil over his trailer guard so he headed off to check it out at a garage. The metchanic could not fix it until 1.30 PM so we had lunch and did the shopping. The problem was only minor and so by 2.30 (after a visit to the bottle shop – pubs do not open until 2.30 PM here) we set off north. Stayed the night at Pussy Cat Flats (Love the name) which is a race course so in the other times they allow campers. Bar opened at 4PM so it was really a friendly, enjoyable atmosphere. Where else would you see huge ant hills built into the running rails and also the rodeo shute? The land opposite has been recently burnt, as is most of the Kimberley, and the Sulphur Crested Cockatoos were black with the soot.
Tuesday 10th Daly River Barra Resort
Had a late start and arrived here about 2.30 PM. We are camped under the mango trees. Would hate to be here in the summer! Think the mossies might carry you away. Allan is booked on a fishing trip fro tomorrow. This loosely termed resort! Has a small pool so we indulged in that to cool down. Have slept with windows open and no doona for last 3 nights. There are many kites here and the barra man puts the fish carcasses out for them. Been trying to get a decent photo.
