Oodnadatta - Lyndhurst

23rd July Oodnadatta – Coward Springs.
The track starts to get interesting as it follows the Old Ghan Railway. There are numerous old ruins along the way. Crossed the Plantation Sandhills and stopped at Algebuckina Creek where the old bridge is still a feature. It is still the longest rail bridge in SA. Next stop was the Warrina Ruins the on to William Creek Hotel for a late lunch. The food at the Hotel is really good.
Leaving William Creek we drove over the Irrapatana Sandhills which run for miles. They are quite beautiful and covered with poached egg daisies.
We stopped at Coward Springs for the night.

24th July – Coward Springs
We had one of the best camp sites that we have had since we left home. We decided to stay the day. It was the site of the Coward Springs Hotel and the old Ghan Railway stopped here. It has a hot bore water spa so we indulged in that. Went for a walk through the wetland and saw a huge dingo and two Brolgas.

25th July – Coward Springs – Lyndhurst
Our first stop this morning was the Mound Springs. It was well worth the stop and we saw the hot mud bubbling out of the ground at “The Bubbler” and a similar thing at Blanche Cup. The landscape was like a lunar landscape with encrusted salt rising to the surface of the ground. On then to Maree. As we have both been there before, we had  lunch at the pub and headed to Furina where we intended to camp. It is an old ghost town. Great camping spot but the wind was just whistling through and the showers were by donkey power so we ended up driving to Lyndhurst and the start of the Strzelecki Track to Innamincka.
