Monday 11th June Tilmouth Well –
Renahans Bore
Being in holiday mode, we forgot that today
was a holiday so we were not sure if the shop at Yuendumu (Aboriginal
Community) was open. Had breakfast at Tilmouth Well and the owner checked for
us to see that it was open. We were most impressed with Tilmouth Well. It was a
real oasis in the desert so to speak and was so tidy and clean an absolute
paradise compared with where we are tonight. There is 8 inches of bull dust
everywhere you walked!!! Overflowing bins!! Real bush camping!!!
The road to here was varied but mainly
corrugations. We found that if you kept the car at 70-80kph that the
corrugations didn’t seem so bad. Slow down and they nearly shook you to bits.
I have been surprised by the country. I had
imagined it to be flat and desert but it reminded me of the road between
Morven- Charleville before it was sealed. Every now and then you can see a
range of mountains to the SW.
Enroute today Allan spotted an wedge-tailed
eagle feasting on a carcass. As he approached it flew into a tree. We walked
down to the tree and there were two wedge-tails in the tree. I managed to get a
few shots using the fast shutter speed so I was quite happy.
