Saturday 11th September - Dormie - Dunure

Drove from Dormie to Dunure. It was pouring rain as we left and driving through the Glens was so interesting as the hills were running waterfalls. The lochs were covered in mist and many of the higher hills were shrouded in low clouds. Of course, we had to encounter a single lane road as well so we were averaging about 30 mph. Once we hit the A9 we were able to increase the speed. We diverted around Glasgow and headed for Ayr, a seaside town on the coast. Passed Royal Troon Golf Club. The houses were very elegant and so were the hotels.

We finally found a nice little Hotel in Dunure, by the water and adjacent to a ruined castle. Tried a few more scotch varieties. Jo tried a Laphroig, but neither of us liked it. What we found out later is that it is an Irish whisky and has the peat taste. Have decided that I like Highland single malt varieties.
