Wednesday 15 September
Today we awoke to showers and winds. However we would not be deterred and set off up the coast. Before leaving we booked ourselves in for a second night in the Hotel.
Our first stop was Waterfoot a small village on Atrim’s east coast. From here we drove inland along Glenariff supposedly the loveliest Antrim’s glen. We attempted to drive into Glenariff Forest Park which has many walks however the weather did beat us and a quick drive in to the car park was all we managed.
From there we came back to the coastal road and drove to a pretty seaside village of Cushendun and then onto the Torr Head Scenic Road. Now, not only was the wind blowing a gale and the rain pelting down we decided to take the one lane scenic route listed in our book as ‘the alternative route not for the faint hearted’. The route was true to reputation and we were to see some scenic seascapes through driving rain and winds as well as having some nerve wrecking times. At one stage we were crossing a flooded section of the road only to meet 6 cows running towards us followed closely behind by the land rover and tractor!!
We survived the route and were treated to some wonderful sights as we motored further along the coast. We have set our agenda of the rope bridge and causeway for tomorrow.
Before heading home we stopped for a wee dram of whiskey at Bushmills’ distillery. Not a bad drop and one Jo has for her night cap tonight.
