Walpole – Denmark – Albany - 21 October

We can rest our necks at last. For the past few days we have been craning our necks to see the tops of the tall trees – karri, marri, jarrah and tingle. We really enjoyed the drives through these huge trees and trying our skills at identification as we did so.
After leaving Walpole we drove to Coalmine Beach then headed towards Albany. Our host at Walpole suggested we visit the Alpaca Farm and the Cheese Factory so we did just that. Jo wanted to see Tyson - the Bison and he was huge. They also had some Highland cows which were soooo cute especially the calf.
Then we stopped at the Denmark Farmhouse Cheeses and Duckett Wines. We tried the cheeses and the wonderful jams, chutneys etc that they produced. Could have bought lots more of their produce but no room in the car!
We then drove to Denmark which is a pretty place situated on Wilson Inlet. The coast from Walpole to Albany is just beautiful and there are so many drives into the coast where you can experience the beauty of this area. We did the drive to Elephant Rock and Greens Pool where the granite boulders are down to the water. The seas are just beautiful – dark blue, aqua, light blue and crystal clear. As we did the walk down to the beach, we could see whales breeching and tail slapping out beyond the reef.
Tonight we are staying in Albany. The lady at the Information Centre suggested the “Squid Shack” as a great place for fish, squid and chips so we went there for tea. Met an English couple who told us it was written up in their Guide of Australia. Was enjoyable.
