10/11/12 October – Perth

Have had three days in Perth. Yesterday, we re-visited Kings Park for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Did a big walk to the Grevillea and Banksia sections after visiting the shop.
Today, Jo had to take the car in for a service so it was an early start. Fortunately Amanda showed us the way, then dropped us in the city. We soon found the city buses and caught the red circle bus to the West Australia Mint. It was well worth a visit. We saw gold being poured. It went from melting point to being poured into a gold bar and cool enough to touch within less than 3 mins. The WA mint has processed 800 tonnes of gold!!!!! Can you imagine that!!!!
We then visited Craig, who works on the 33rd floor of St George Tower. Great views across Perth. When I visited Perth in 1958, I remembered the St George & the Dragon clock so sought it out. Still in London Court.
This arvo, Jo has decided on a new hobby – a bell ringer!! We visited “The Bell Tower” where we were able to try our hand at bell ringing. Not as easy as it sounds. Twelve of the bells came from St Martin’s in the Field as a bicentenary gift. There are now eighteen bells – others have been donated by City of London and some mining companies.
Perth is to host CHOGM later in the month so the city is busy preparing.
Drove home along the beach road and saw the Northern beaches. There were some huge homes at Scarborough.
