Perth – Dunsborough – 14 th October 2011

This morning we said “Good-bye” to Perth and have begun our homeward journey. Since we have been in WA, we have been most impressed by the road/train network. Seems to be new suburbs springing up everywhere. Everywhere we have been, we have seen networks of bike tracks. Each town seems to be catering for the bike rider.
We headed south towards Dunsborough. Our fist stop was Safety Bay, Rockingham. Then on to Lake Clifton and the Yalgorup National Park where we saw the amazing thrombilites – living fossils. They look a bit like the stromatolites we saw at Shark Bay but are not formed in the same manner. Had lunch in the Yalgorup National Park where I managed to photograph a few really small wildflowers.
On the way between Bunbury and Busselton, we drove through the Tuart Forest National Park. It is the largest remaining pure forest of tuart in the world. There were hundreds of flowering ayrum lilies growing thorough-out the forest. It seems they are a noxious weed.
Staying in Dunsborough for a few days and will explore the region from here.
