Sunday 3 June Jervois Station to Gemtree
Didn’t leave until about 10.30 today as we
only had about 220km to Gemtree. Again, the Plenty Highway was a diverse
mixture of good and pretty bad corrugations so progress was about 80kms or
less. The worst parts were where the road had a washout the full width of the
road and it was just enough to really rattle the tyres. Drove in to look at the Harts Range
racecourse that is set amongst the rocky outcrops. We could only view from
outside as it was closed. The ranges looked spectacular as they were deep blue
and the sun was shining on parts of them and this was contrasted with the red
of the soil, the olive green of the trees and a different blue for the sky.

Gemtree Caravan park is our stop for the
night. It is really well set out and they have access to the nearby gemfields.
You can hire the items needed to fossick from the store. Tonight, Alan and I
went out to the plains and gathered firewood. He used the chainsaw to chop it
up. Was able to use the camp oven again to cook dinner.
