Ross River Campsite

Tuesday 5 June Ross R Resort -Trephina Gorge – John Hayes Rockpool
After a leisurely start to our day, we packed lunch and headed to Trephina Gorge – almost all bitumen (A change from the past few days). At Trephina, we donned our walking boots and Jo & I had walking poles and we set off on the gorge walk. It was a moderate walk and entailed climbing from the foot of the gorge up the face then around the top and then down to the creek below. It was pretty rocky and some of the rocks were slippery but we all managed it. Jo did particularly well considering her recent injury. The gorge is spectacular with red rock and the blue sky!! In the gorge the water was still flowing in a narrow stream so it was off with the boots to cross!! Had lunch there then on the return journey we called into to see John Hayes Rock-pool. It was only 4km in but what a road!!! Allan really enjoyed driving it but Jo was not so impressed. However, our 4 wheel driving course held her in good stead.
True to his work, Graham arrived about 4.30 and drove us out to see the Sphinx and The Great Wall of China. In the evening light, they looked spectacular. The rock formations are so interesting.
