Murray -Darling Trip - Brisbane - Tumut

11-16 March
Jo & I left Brisbane and headed towards Goondiwindi via Cunningham's Gap and Warwick. The road up the Gap was quite wavy - guess all the trucks driving over the wet surface. Met up with Pat and Allan in Goondiwindi.
Next stop was Keepit Lake State Park via Gunnedah. On the road again and this time we stayed for two nights at Burrendong Dam. It is near Wellington. It is a huge holiday spot with lots of permanent cabins. The Lake is popular with boaties and fishermen. there is a tagged fish in the lake that is worth $50 000 if it is caught before Easter. We went to the near by Arboretum which was quite interesting. Liked the Hakeas as they were near flowering.
Had a short run to Cowra. After setting up the vans, Allan and I went for a drive to see the Japanese War Cemetery. We felt both the Japanese and Australian War Graves section was very tastefully done. We thought it was a really peaceful site.
Saw the site of the POW Camp. What I did not realise is there were Italian, Korean, Chinese and Indonesians in the camp as well as Japanese.
Also visited the Japanese Gardens. Again we felt the peace and serenity of the setting.
Went to the RSL for dinner and to watch the footy. YEAH the Lions won the Finals of the NAB Cup!!! hope it is the forerunner to a great season.
Today we arrived in Tumut. The caravan park is huge and a beautiful shady setting where we are about to relax with a wine.

  1. SO pleased that you are on the road again Jan. Travel safely. My Dad was posted to Cowra during the war.

  2. I will have to see the gardens again as it is over 20 years since I saw them, but worth every moment spent there.
