Sept 19 San Jose – Monterey – Carmel – Big Sur – San Simeon
Left San Jose and headed down the coast to Monterey. We then took
the 17 miles loop road around Pebble Beach but when we came out in Carmel, we
got lost and we were up in the heights in all these very narrow roads, one way
etc. Finally found our way down to the beach road and then headed down the Big
Sur Road. It is very winding and took a long time. It is a beautiful drive
along the cliffs with long drops to the sea. As you round a corner, you could
see miles down the coast. Stopped at Hurricane Point. Stopped at Hurricane
Point for a photo and it was pretty obvious why it was called Hurricane Point
as we were nearly blown away. En-route we saw a number of condors circling
overhead. Tried to get a photo but it is not sharp. It was a pretty slow drive
and we stopped for the night at San Simeon where the Hurst Castle is located.
