Sept 21 Death Valley – Las Vegas
Stayed the night at Stovepipe Wells in the
middle of the park. It was 107 degrees F. I really enjoyed the drive as the
landscape was very similar in parts to The Badlands of South Dakota. Marg and I
took some photos near dark and did not even see the Mesquite Flat Dunes until
we were walking back from breakfast. The view from Zabriskie Point really
revealed the valley's eroded and vibrantly coloured badlands then further up
was a view across the golden-brown mudstone hills. We then visited Dante's View
which is 5000 feet above seal level and when we had been on the floor of the
the valley was 282 feet below sea level. You can see almost the entire expanse
of Death Valley from there. Loved Death Valley. Scenery was spectacular.
Then drove on to Las Vegas. Gerry Garmim was
worth his weight in gold again as it took us to the strip. We inquired at
Bellagio and it was $300 a room so we came to the Circus Circus. It was 5000
rooms.
Did not get to bed until 2AM. We caught the
bus down
to Freemont Street (the old part of the
strip) and the whole street is
covered with a roof and they put on a laser
light show - We saw Bon Jovi
on the show. Then caught the bus back to the
other end of town and went
to the musical fountain show at Bellagio
followed by coffee and dessert.
I would like to own the power company here. There
were people everywhere - huge crowds.
