Lancelin - New Norcia 25th September 2011

After s sleep-in, we set off for the historic New Norcia. Jo & I followed Craig and Peta as they were heading back to Perth. En route, Craig stopped at an area that had had a fire through it and had had rain. He thought it would be a great place for wildflowers and he was right. He had no sooner walked into the bush when he found a Spider Orchid. There were so many varieties and they were so thick that you had to be really careful that you did not walk on one. Got lots of photos but again the big challenge is to identify the individual plants.
We had lunch at the Hotel in New Norcia. It was once the guest house for the monks. You just can’t imagine the Benedictine monks coming out here in the 1840’s to establish this monastery and building such structures. Jo & I went through the museum and Craig & Peta headed home to Perth. We then drove back to Lancelin. On the way over, we passed Moore Creek. This was near where the children portrayed in the movie “Rabbit Proof Fence” were housed.
