Pindar – Geraldton – Kalbarri Wednesday 28th September 2011

After a leisurely breakfast at Pindar, we headed back to Mullewa and then on to Geraldton where we heard the New Endeavour was to dock at 11AM. We were just a tad late so went up to the Memorial to the HMAS Sydney to see if we could see it. Found out it was moored at the fishing port – not visible from the memorial. Had coffee at “Dome”which overlooked the beach at Geraldton. Beautiful spot. The water was turquoise blue and looked incredible.
Drove to Kalbarri via Port Gregory. Alongside the road was a pink lake. The colour comes from the garnet mine with it burgundy-coloured mineral deposits which spill into the lake. Betacarotene is then extracted by a mining company.
We have rented Kenny’s bungalow for our stay in Kalbarri. Gives us a bit of space to spread out.
