Day 2

Thursday 8th September 2011

St George – Thargomindah

The drive was great as spring has the wattles blooming as well as some of the eucalyptus species – which were adorned with a creamy yellow blossom. Emus and kangaroos were again plentiful. Road kill was everywhere. We stopped in Bollon for a cuppa and several emus just walked down the main street. We were talking to an old chap who warned us that the rain was coming in.

At Cunnamulla, we drove out to the weir to see if the birds were still there and to have lunch, then we headed west. At Eulo, the old store had been burnt down and the Date Winery was closed. The further west we went, the darker the sky became. By the time we arrived at Lake Bindagolly after avoiding lots of ‘roos and emus, rain started. It was pouring by the time we arrived in Thargomindah and continued through the night. We made the decision to return to Cunnamulla and then had south to Bourke, Broken Hill and across to Port Augusta. We will come home via Innaminka as long as the track is open then.
