Port Augusta – Ceduna (468Km)
Left Nuttbush about 8.30 and headed west. The road was very good. We drove across the northern part of the Eyre Peninsular. It reminded us of the Darling Downs as there were acres and acres of wheat growing and silos at each town. The silos all looked very new and modern. Must have had some good rains as the countryside was very green. Most of the towns we passed through were wheat farming towns and they were very tidy. At Kimba we posed for a photo at the sign that said we were ½ way across Australia. At Kyancutta, we saw the Australian Farmer carved out of granite. It is a most imposing statue.
We drove to Mt Wudinna – 261 m high which is the second largest granite outcrop in Australia. I climbed to the top – Jo climbed ½ way as she was conscious of her hip on the way down. On the way up I found a group of Variegated Fairy Wrens and was so excited but could not manage to get a photo as they kept in the shelter of the bushes.
At Minnipa, we drove to the “wave-like” granite formation of Piladappa Rock. It reminded me of smaller “Wave Rock”.
Arrived in Ceduna in time to watch quite a nice sunset over Smoky Bay.
