Bourke – Broken Hill

Left Bourke about 8.30. Managed to get a photo of the Spotted Bower Bird that was nesting just outside the Park fence. Trip to Cobar was a kaleidoscope of colours – the red of the earth contrasted with the various greens of the trees, the yellow of the flowering grasses while the wattle added the gold to the scene.
The poem
“Sing a song of Wattle time, Sing of sweet September. Sunny days and scented nights, Pleasant to remember.” Keeps coming to mind but we can’t remember the author.
After a coffee stop in Cobar we headed west again. Stopped at Wilcannia to have lunch. Then back into the car for the 202 KM to Broken Hill. Again, the colours of the bush continue to amaze us. The purple of the Rough Halgania added more vibrancy to the colourful scene. Stopped to take some photos and I counted ten different species of wildflowers.
Arrived in Broken Hill about 3PM. Had to put the watches back ½ hour and dispose of all our fruit and veggies. Keep forgetting that Broken Hill is in the Fruit fly free zone. We have a cottage in Broken Hill for a couple of days before we cross into SA and begin the assault on the Nullabor.
