Sunday 11 th September Broken Hill - Silverton

Sunday 11th September 2011

Broken Hill

Jo was a happy chappy today as she was able to do the washing!!!! It turned out to be a cloudy day and continues to be really COLD!!!! After the washing, we went to the Tourist Centre and then headed west to the old mining town of Silverton. It is such a special place. Each time I go there I really enjoy it as it has such a timeless appeal, added to that is that it is a very photogenic place. Had lunch at the CafĂ©. Took several photographs of the old churches, homes etc before heading back to the Living Desert and the Sculptures. We did the Heritage Walk – took about 11/2 hours but was most enjoyable. Amazing what you miss. We had walked past many Sturt’s Desert Pea plants on the way out but did spot them on the way back. We then drove to the Sculptures. No need for a key any more and you can drive to the top of the hill. Sooooo much better!!! Didn’t stay for sunset but decided to go to the Line of Lode instead. Unfortunately, by the time we arrived it was just a tad late. Took a couple of photos though.
